Portraits 3. Here is a steam locomotive portrait via Bert Pennypacker that was taken at the Engine House in Northumberland, Pennsylvania, on 6 July 1952. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #6704, #3159, #2370, and two more locomotives whose numbers are not recorded. #6704 is an M-1A (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during March of 1930 and retired in June of 1959. #3159 is an L-1S (2-8-2) "Mikado" constructed in Juniata during October of 1915 and retired in September of 1952. #2370 is an H-9S (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built in Juniata as an H-8B during November of 1911, rebuilt as an H-8SB in September of 1915, rebuilt as an H-9S in March of 1919, and retired in November of 1955. Harley. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Tom Harley that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1956. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6704, an M-1A (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during March of 1930 and retired in June of 1959 after 29 years of faithful service. Visible in the background are several other steam locomotives being serviced at the East Altoona Coaling Tipple. |
