Description:
Here is a photo from Mr. William D. Gorman. It was published originally in the December 1963 issue of "Railroad" magazine, page 4. Partial Caption: "July 24, 1955 . . . Class I-1 wheels Pennsy freight train past Newberry Tower at Williamsport, Pa." Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4240, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built as an I-1S by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during June of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-!SA in September of 1942, and retired in January of 1956 after 33 years of faithful service.
