Description:
Another of the "Mountain" type locnmotives built by Baldwin in 1941 for the Boston & Maine. Besides the number, each carried a nickname determined by a public contest. The winning name for #4144 was "Invincible". Here it sits in the Rigby Yard in Portland. Not the "centipede" wheeled tender! Specifics - class R-1, 73" drivers, 240 psi boiler pressure, 28"x31" cylinders, engine weight of 416,100 lb, tractive efforu of 67,918 lb. Eventually the loco was retired between 1955-56. Unknown photographer.
